Thought raiding KJ for 12+ hours a day is hardcore? How about 18 hours for a single boss attempt in FFXI.

Well, the talks about switching out players right below and talking about how "2 legendary players obtained their legendary status by realizing that some boss changed colours when it changed its elemental vulnerability and being the only ones to beat it on some other" make me have a feeling that it's pure brute force and no real tactic whatsoever.
Having played some final fantasy (single player) before leads me to the same conclusion (auto-phoenix anyone?).
I have no idea about the mmorpg whatsoever though, so |

thx god i quit that game earlig or i could have been one of the people vometing.
the group/class set up realy killed it for me, and the fact that you could level down when you died (only happned once thoug for me). |

Meh, i played that game seriously and it's not bad at all. It Is a bit slowpaced and the movement controls is extremely annoying. However, It has a lot of really fun stuff, and the class system is what i found fun.
And the fact that you can't just bruteforce anything is also nice. You have to have healing rotations for every raidencounter and stuff.
So in the end, FFXI could actually compete with WoW if you're only interested in PvE... If it weren't for those freakishly annoying controls. |

So, knowing the game, does 18 hours to beat a boss seem plausible? Just seems totally crazy to me. |

It doesn't surprise me at all. I know multiple cases of guilds holding a Boss for about 24 hours without being able to kill it. Swapping people every now and then since they got very fatigued. There are obviously some big flaws to their PvE system |
